CANDIDATE NOSTALGIA

Do any of the candidates remind you of anyone or anything? When you look at them or listen to them, are you reminded of some nostalgic tidbit from long ago? For example, Tom Rukavina reminds me of Lt. Colombo because of his mannerisms. John Marty reminds me of Richard Thomas (John Boy Walton) because his ethics are beyond reproach. Susan Gaertner is a bit like Reese Witherspoon. Matt Entenza could be the spitting psychic image of Nicholas Cage. Now if you look really, really close, and very deep, you can see Al Pacino hiding in R.T. Rybak. Right? Tom Bakk reminds me of Dan Blocker (Hoss Cartwright from Bonanza). Steve Kelley has a vague resemblance to Jon Voight. Margaret Anderson Kelliher would, of course, be Rosanne Barr. That leaves Paul Thissen, who I'll tag as Richard Chamberlain (Dr. Kildare). And of course we can't forget Mark Dayton.  Much to his chagrin, I'm not going to cast him as George Reeves of Superman fame. Nope. He makes a much better Clayton Moore. The Lone Ranger. He comes riding in to save the day and then leaves. "Who was that masked man?" And everyone is envious because he's the hero who gets rid of the bad guys (like T-Paw, who is, naturally, the Joker).

Just so I don't leave out the GOP altogether, I do have one for Tony Sutton. He reminds me of Lumpy (Leave it to Beaver). I call his GOP crowd the Lumpy Crowd.

Now let's take this a step further. Every star has to have music attached to them. A theme song, if you will. Isn't this fun? Just click on each name and it will take you to the music that I associate with each candidate. A classical music tribute is the highest compliment I can give these candidates.

  1. Entenza is Wormtongue from Lord of the Rings.

Here's the song associated with Entenza:

  4. Darn, I removed the wrong post. I was going to remove mine because I misspelled a word. Anonymous had written that the DFL convention should use classic music like I chose rather than fight songs. Anonymous, you can repost that if ou want. Sorry about that.
